Vale Jewelry Round Rose Cut Diamond Ring

Rose Cut Diamond Rings

Named for the flower, the rose cut diamond has been around for centuries and offers an alternative to the modern brilliant cut. This cut has a subtle and beautiful yet natural understated sparkle with a soft luster. Rose cuts also have a flat bottom and a domed top with triangular facets.

The rose cut diamond has been found in jewelry dating back to the 1500s and in some cases, similar cuts have been found in embellishment from even earlier eras. They were particularly popular during the Georgian and Victorian eras.

Rose cut diamond rings and jewelry shine beautifully in candlelight but with the advent of electricity, diamond cutters found that a deeper pavilion and angled bottom facets refracted more light so diamonds were progressively cut deeper and taller to maximize fire, scintillation and light refraction. The rose cut was a precursor to the Old European Cut, Old Mine Cut and today's modern brilliant cut.
